MANILA, Philippines — After much delay, the NCAA is all set to get its 96th season going on June 13 featuring chess and taekwondo which will be held virtually.

Due to restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA Management Committee chair Vic Calvo of host Letran said the league will hold a “hybrid” opening ceremony.

Despite the limitations, Calvo said the opening will be the best one yet.

“Others may be giving up but for us, we’ll make sure that this is going to be our best opening.”

The league is also seeking approval from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to hold skills challenges in both basketball and volleyball.

“Whatever is allowed, we’re malleable with the situation. And we adjust but we are prepared with the worst-case scenario,” said Calvo, who also said the theme for this season is “Rise Up Stronger.”

“Against all odds, we will push through with this season. We never thought about canceling the season.”
