Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo purchased a minority stake in the city’s MLB club, the Milwaukee Brewers, ESPN reported Friday.

It was not immediately known how much of a stake Antetokounmpo purchased. He signed a $228 million contract extension with the Bucks last December, keeping him in town until at least 2026.

The two-time league MVP led the Bucks to the NBA title in July, bringing Milwaukee its first major sports championship since 1971.

The Brewers have never won a World Series, but they’re in the National League pennant race with a 74-48 record entering play Friday, good for an 8 1/2-game advantage in the NL Central.

Antetokounmpo’s purchase mirrored a similar move in 2020 by Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, when he joined the Kansas City Royals’ ownership group not long after inking a Chiefs contract extension with a max value of $503 million.
