Blazers, Pirates seek first wins

St. Benilde returns to the floor on Tuesday and will continue to look for its first win of Season 97, clashing with fellow opening-day loser Lyceum in the NCAA men’s basketball at La Salle Greenhills Gym.

Coach Charles Tiu is pointing to his Blazers being outworked in losing during opening day and hopes that he has addressed this in time for their 3 p.m. clash, which comes after Jose Rizal and Perpetual Help clash at 12 noon.

Benilde hopes to apply the lessons it learned against powerhouse Letran in its tussle with Lyceum, which incidentally, is also coming off a loss to another title contender in San Beda over the weekend.

“We just continue to be positive about it, we were not happy with result [of the first game.] We were outworked and that was unacceptable,” said Tiu.

The Blazers were in control most of that game, leading as many as 12 points. But the Knights began to straighten their game ahead of them to escape with the scrambling win.

“But we will take this one game at a time, we don’t want to look past Lyceum,” added Tiu.

The heavily revamped Pirates fumbled against the Red Lions, 84-76, despite having a new system under new coach Gilbert Malabanan. INQ
