SEA Games: Aries Toledo settles for silver in decathlon

MANILA, Philippines — Aries Toledo failed to complete a “three-peat” in men’s decathlon after settling for a silver medal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Toledo, a back-to-back winner in the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games, was dethroned by Thailand’s Suttisak Singkhon.
Singkhon became the newest decathlon king, collecting 7,603 points to beat the Filipino’s 7,469 points.
It was Toledo’s best finish in the past three biennial meets, surpassing his 7,433 points in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Games and 7,033 in 2019. However, his best was only good for silver.
His compatriot, Janry Ubas got the bronze after garnering 6,977 points for his second straight third place finish in the event.
Ubas also won a silver medal in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.73 meters.
