PBA top officials tackle new season in Macau

The PBA board of governors and Office of the Commissioner depart for Macau today to map out the direction the league will take when the next season opens on Sept. 30 with the Philippine Cup.

With a banner season behind them, incoming chair Robert Non of Barangay Ginebra will have a tough act to follow after the league smashed the 2011 Season’s P91 million take at the gates.

Also to be discussed is the annual budget and the application of Sultan 900 as buyer of the defunct Coca-Cola/Powerade franchise where Mikee Romero’s group needs to gain at least two-thirds vote from the board to be accepted.

Romero, a sportsman enamored with basketball, has completed purchase of the Coca-Cola franchise and had submitted all the requirements that would enable the Office of the Commissioner to do its due diligence and make a recommendation to the board.

If approved, another topic to be discussed would be the concessions that Romero would be asking as the newest member.

Romero had said that, if accepted as a member, he would lobby to be able to directly hire at least five amateurs, including prodigious Cebu product Jun Mar Fajardo.
