Bersola: We tried to bring winning ways to UP
The biggest thing Kathy Bersola and fellow outgoing seniors Nicole Tiamzon and Pia Gaiser brought to University of the Philippines was the belief that the Lady Maroons are capable of winning.
For the longest time, the Lady Maroons were labeled as afterthoughts in volleyball but all that changed when UP made a surprising run in Season 78 and claim the fourth seed.
Though the Lady Maroons eventually lost to Ateneo, it became the starting point of a revolution inside UP.
“I think our legacy is we tried to bring the winning ways to UP,” said Bersola Wednesday after ending their campaign in Season 79 with a three-set loss to Final Four-bound Far Eastern University, 25-16, 25-16, 27-25.
Bersola, Tiamzon and Gaiser came to the UP program at the same time and they became the foundation of what would become the Lady Maroons of today.
“Us three were the toughest in our batch, because there were nine of us that started and there’s just three of us,” said Bersola. “And I think we’ve had our achievements during our time.”
