MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel Beer got back the services of Jordan Adams after having a short run with Sheldon Mac and it resulted in another convincing win for the Beermen in Group B of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

In Adams’ return, the Beermen trounced Phoenix, 139-127, at Araneta Coliseum on Friday to give San Miguel a 5-2 win-loss record with the quarterfinals looming.

For Adams, it was a matter of staying ready despite being replaced by Mac a few days back.

“I just had to stay ready. They told me to stay ready, you never know what could happen. That’s my job as a professional; staying in the gym and staying ready for my name to be called,” said Adams.

“We have to keep winning. That’s all that matters here… The most important thing is we got the win. I just went out there, played hard and tried to get the win for my teammates.”

Adams finished with a monster double-double to the tune of 49 points and 11 rebounds—just one point shy of his conference-high 50 points, which he tallied in the Beermen’s outing against Blackwater a few weeks back.

In the Beermen’s 119-114 win over NLEX a few days ago, Mac only tallied 16 points, one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block–a far cry from what Adams usually dropped when he was the Beermen’s first import.

Coach Jorge Gallent, though, explained why they were quick to bring Adams back after a failed experiment with Mac.

“We just wanted to try a 1-2-3-4 guy and unfortunately, it backfired but Sheldon Mac played well against NLEX but we decided to bring Jordan back and it was great.”

“You know what’s nice about Jordan? He was professional enough to stay with us and to play with us again. I’m very happy that Jordan played and I’m very happy for his game now and it speaks about how great he is of an import.”
