JASON Castro or Jason William?

The Gilas Pilipinas point guard has puzzled foreign teams and Filipino fans as well in the 27th Fiba Asia Championship.

“I’ve been using William as my surname since birth,” said Castro in Filipino.

“But when my father and mother divorced in grade school, my mother told me to use Castro while my papers are being processed,” he added.

“All of my documents, including my passport, bear William as my surname. I only use Castro on my jerseys,” said the 5-foot-10 playmaker.

A Gilas insider said foreign teams that scouted Castro were baffled when he wore the Gilas jersey with William on it.

“They are not aware that there’s a William on our team because all of his stats and videos posted online are under Castro,” said the source.

Castro played for the RP Youth squad in 2003 and the Philippine team that captured the gold medal in the 2007 Southeast Asian Basketball Association. On both occasions, he used William on his jerseys.
