GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Boxing icon and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao is now on a strict “organic diet” to keep his health in superb, if not perfect, condition, his strength and conditioning coach said.

“I go for organic,” Mexican-American Cecilio Flores told the Inquirer here.

Flores said by going organic, Pacquiao could only eat chemical-free fish, vegetables, meat and other “natural foods.”

Flores, a nutritionist, started Pacquiao’s organic regimen as soon as he arrived here a few days ago.

He was the same nutritionist who handled another Filipino boxer, Nonito Donaire, during his rematch with Vic Darchinyan.

Donaire knocked out Darchinyan in the ninth round during their match in November last year.

Flores, according to his credentials, also worked with World Boxing Council Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, former World Boxing Organization and WBC Middleweight king Kelly Pavlik, Argentinian World Boxing Association Welterweight titleholder Marcos Maidana and International Boxing Federation Featherweight champ Evgeny Gradovich.

“Of all the world boxing champions I worked with, only Pacquiao and Martinez are almost the same in terms of discipline and hard work in training. Their energy level and dedication are just so amazing,” Flores said.

He described Pacquiao as an extraordinary talent that comes once in 30 years.

“In the Philippines, maybe once in 50 years,” Flores said.

“Me and coach Freddie (Roach) have so much respect for each other. I hope our teamwork would last and help make Manny Pacquiao succeed in becoming a world boxing champion again,” Flores said.

Pacquiao is training hard for his April 12 rematch with American boxer Timothy Bradley.

“Come fight time, I’ll try to make sure that Manny Pacquiao’s strength, speed and stamina are better than Bradley’s. His strength and quickness would be different this time. I want him to throw heavy punches in bunches,” Flores said.
