Power Pinays yield to Japan in Asian Women’s Club volleyball
MANILA, Philippines—Philippines’ PLDT Home TVolution fell to a superior Hisamitsu Springs Japan side to bow out of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Club championship Wednesday in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.
The Power Pinays reeled to a 7-25, 13-25, 12-25 setback in the quarterfinals after they were unable to match the Japanese’ firepower.
Japan leaned on 40 attacks compared to the Philippines’ 18 to enter the semifinals of the annual competition.
Article continues after this advertisementAll 11 hitters chipped in at least a point for Japan, while only Cuban import Regla Bell carried the scoring cudgels for the Philippines.
Bell finished with 11 points while the rest of the Power Pinays combined for 10. Jaja Santiago was the next best scorer with three.
The Philippines, which entered the playoffs after a whipping of Singarpo, is relegated to the classification round where it could salvage at least fifth place or drop to eighth.
