Fiba World Cup honors Gilas Pilipinas
MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos have been known to be one of the most passionate basketball fans in world.
And it was recognized by Fiba on Monday.
The Philippines earned the recognition as the Most Valuable Fan Best Country in the 2014 Fiba World Cup.
Gilas Pilipinas suffered a string of heartbreaks in its return to the World Cup in 36 years but the support from its countrymen never wavered. And if anything, it grew even more.
The Phillipines’ will to win and heart gained the attention and respect from fans all over the world.
The world meet, which was held in Spain, also saw Gilas win the country’s first in that scale in 40 years.
Team USA captured the gold medal after handily beating Serbia early Monday morning (Manila time).
