MANILA, Philippines-Kia Sorento playing coach Manny Pacquiao is set to miss his first game against perennial crowd darlings Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the 40th season of the PBA.

With his fight against challenger Chris Algieri looming, Pacquiao decided to temporarily leave the Sorento on October 25 to focus on his boxing training.

“I won’t be playing with the team but my support would always be with them,” Pacquaio said after his team’s 80-66 win against Blackwater Elite Sunday at the Philippine Arena.

Pacquiao would fight Algieri at junior welterweight instead of his current division at welterweight.

“It doesn’t matter if I won’t be able to play, the important thing is Kia wins every time we go out and play,” Pacquiao said.

He added that he might play all the remaining games after his fight November 23 boxing match in Macau.
