Lim offers no excuses after early Wimbledon exit

Sixteen-year-old tennis protege Alberto Lim Jr. offered no excuse after losing to world No. 9 William Blumberg of the United States Tuesday night in the second round of the Wimbledon boys singles.

The 16-year-old Lim, who clawed his way from the qualifying round, posted on his Facebook account “lost to World No. 9 in the world,” with the hashtag “not bad.”

Lim dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Blumberg, a 17-year-old American who has been campaigning extensively in the tour.

Match details showed that Lim didn’t hold his punches as he hammered four aces against the American’s five. But the Filipino who hails from Matatalaib, Tarlac, committed four double faults in the process against none by his opponent.

Blumberg also whipped up 24 winners against 15 by Lim and was more consistent with his serves, winning 81 percent of his first serves, and 77 percent of his second without ever facing a break point.

On the other hand, Lim won 55 percent of his first serves and 54 of his second serve and was broken four times.

Still, Lim is expected climb in the world rankings from his current 45th. He is expected to again see action in the last Grandslam of the season, the US Open in New York City which starts Aug. 31.
