Bobby Ray Parks Jr. finally scored his first goal in the NBA Summer League Thursday (Manila time) during the Dallas Mavericks’ 88-86 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Parks, fighting for a spot on the Mavericks NBA roster, showed a glimpse of what he can do after driving to the basket and finishing a contested layup with under a minute left in the first quarter that gave his team a 28-18 lead.

Playing in his fourth game for the Mavericks, the 6-foot-4 guard also got to share the court with fellow Filipino-American Jordan Clarkson of the Lakers.

Clarkson, who wound up with 17 points, is expected to make more noise in his second NBA season after making it to the All-Rookie Team in his first year.

Parks, a two-time MVP in the collegiate ranks out of the National University Bulldogs, had the chance to go up against Clarkson as well as the Lakers’ rookie D’Angelo Russell, who was the second overall pick in last month’s draft.

While Parks had a memorable game, Russell had a forgettable one after his late turnover paved the way for the Mavericks to win it with Jeremy Tyler making the go-ahead stick back with 1.4 seconds left.

The 22-year-old Parks played a little over 15 minutes—his longest playing time of the tournament. He finished with three points, one rebound and a steal. IDL
