Ateneo’s dancing Thai coach will still be on the sidelines come UAAP Season 79.

Tai Bundit, the two-time champion coach of the Lady Eagles, will still be the head coach of Ateneo in the Women’s Volleyball Tournament after the school gave him another one-year contract.

Lady Eagles team manager Tony Liao said the higher-ups in Ateneo want Bundit to return after seeing the vast improvement of the volleyball program.

“We are retaining his services, gusto nila father habaan,” Liao said. “Nung nakita nilang gumanda volleyball program ng Ateneo, di na madedeny i-re retain natin.”

Before Bundit’s arrival in Ateneo, the most the Lady Eagles accomplished were back-to-back Finals appearances with a young Alyssa Valdez just starting to develop into the player she is.

Bundit’s arrival in Season 76 immediately paid dividends with the Lady Eagles stunning De La Salle in the Finals and Valdez receiving the first of her three MVPs.

Liao added Ateneo’s coaching contracts only last one year and Bundit is no exception.

Ateneo’s only reason to let go of Bundit is if the Thai mentor decides he would go.

“Next season andiyan siya, unless siya magsabi na ‘I have to go.’”
