Pacres thankful for constant pressure from coach
The legend of Dimdim Pacres just grew another notch.
University of Santo Tomas’ unheralded star has been instrumental in the team’s three-game winning run in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.
Pacres has averaged 11.5 points in UST’s past two games, putting her just below teammates Cherry Rondina and EJ Laure in the team’s offensive pecking order.
And that is thanks to no small part to the pressure head coach Kung Fu Reyes puts on her every day in training.
“I’m just so thankful we’ve achieved this level of play,” said Pacres Saturday after their 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20 win over Far Eastern U . “Coach is always on me during training, especially if I’m not moving correctly.”
“But I take that as a challenge, and even though it’s hard, it eventually paid off today.”
Pacres had 12 points to help the Golden Tigresses take down the Lady Tamaraws and cap off their first round campaign with a 4-3 record.
Her time with UST, however, wasn’t all peaches and cream as she was demoted to the second team her second year.
That time in the sidelines motivated the third year player to prove to the coaching staff she does belong with the primary team.
“All I did when I was with the Team B was pick up the volleyballs, and I rarely played,” said Pacres. “So I just pushed myself further so I would be included in the team’s final lineup.”
