MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday urged Filipinos to offer their full support to national basketball team Gilas Pilipinas as it is set to participate in the Fiba World Cup 2019 in China.

Pampalakas ng loob,” the Vice President said over “BISErbisyong LENI” in local radio station RMN-DZXL 558.

This was contrary to President Rodrigo Duterte’s remark casting doubt that the country’s team would win against Italy, Gilas’ Pilipinas first opponent in the group stages of the world meet. Duterte added he would bet on China instead.

Robredo also acknowledged Gilas Pilipinas’ representation for the country, saying she would be grateful for the team whether they win or lose.

Matalo man o manalo, nagpapasalamat na tayo,” Robredo said.

Gilas will be going up against Italy on Aug. 31, Serbia on Sept. 2, and Angola on Sept. 4. /je
