TAINAN, Taiwan—Jay Bayron overcame a sluggish start to shoot a four-under-par 68 on Thursday and be just three shots out of the lead after the opening round of the $100,000 Nan Pao TPGA (PGA of Taiwan) Open at the Nan Pao Golf Club.
Antonio Lascuña returned a 69 despite a wobbly finish as the two Filipinos in the talent-laden event put themselves in contention.
Taiwanese-American Lein Benjamin fired a 65 in calm conditions over the 6,639-yard tree-lined course to take the lead.
Lascuña bogeyed his par-5 closing hole, the ninth, where he only had 297 yards to the green and elected to go for driver off the deck.
Lee Cho-Chuan of Taiwan fired an eagle-spiked 66, while Sattaya Supupramai shot a 67.
