Palace lauds Nesthy Petecio for bagging gold in boxing world championships
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday hailed Filipino boxer Nesthy Petecio for winning the featherweight division in the 2019 Aiba Women’s World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia.
“The Palace congratulates Filipino boxer Nesthy Petecio for winning the 2019 Aiba Women’s World Boxing Championships yesterday,” Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
“Our people are one in rejoicing Nesthy’s triumph after winning against her Russian opponent in the latter’s turf country. Indeed, it was a proud moment for Nesthy and the Philippines,” he added.
Petecio beat Russia’s Liudmila Vorontsova by split decision.
“We expect Nesthy to shine even more in the coming Southeast Asian Games to be held in Manila next month as she carries the flag with full pride and honor in front of her countrymen. Mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino!” Panelo further said.
Petecio’s victory became the country’s second gold in 24 hours after Carlos Yulo earlier bagged the Philippines’ first gold at the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championship in Stuttgart, Germany. /jpv
