MANILA, Philippines — Five down, three to more go.
Veteran forward Arwind Santos revealed San Miguel Beer has made it a goal to win at least a total of eight All-Filipino championships.
“Like what we already talked about, we want eight All-Filipino titles. I mentioned that to the team and as long as we’re together, all of us will really try to reach that goal,” Santos said in Filipino on the 2OT podcast.
The Beermen also want the same number of Most Valuable Player awards for their cornerstone June Mar Fajardo, the only six-time PBA MVP.
Part of the challenge is that San Miguel’s core isn’t getting any younger. Santos, who turns 39 next month, is the oldest.
But make no mistake, the Beermen remain a formidable crew even despite the absence of the injured Fajardo, who isn’t expected to return this year as he continues his recovery from leg surgery.
In the only game played so far this season before the suspension, San Miguel, minus Fajardo, clobbered Magnolia, 94-78.
“We’re taking June Mar’s absence as a challenge in a positive way.”
