UST sets probe into Growling Tigers’ ‘Sorsogon bubble’

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas will investigate the alleged breach of quarantine protocols by its men’s basketball team after the Growling Tigers allegedly held a bubble training camp in Sorsogon, the home province of head coach Aldin Ayo.
“Today, we heard the news about the alleged breach of quarantine protocols by the UST basketball team in Sorsogon. Accordingly, we created a committee to investigate and to inquire into the matter,” UST said in a statement Sunday.
The university said that while it adheres to the belief that physical activity can pose a positive impact on the students’ physical and mental health, it believes that its conduct should be done in compliance with guidelines imposed by the government.
“We always endeavor to support the concerted government effort to ensure that proper social and physical distancing environments are in place,” it added.
“We wish to assure you that the University does not tolerate any form of violation of government regulation, and it responds promptly by taking appropriate action,” the University further said.
The Philippine Sports Commission also earlier announced it has begun its probe on the alleged breach of quarantine rules of the UST basketball team, with Chairman Butch Ramirez saying the agency has obtained a copy of the video showing the Growling Tigers’ practice in Sorsogon City.
The issue made headlines shortly after erstwhile team captain CJ Cansino bared that he was eased out of the team roster.
