MANILA, Philippines — One of the deadliest shooters in the PBA today, Matthew Wright thinks the bubble environment suits his game.
The Phoenix swingman showed just that on Monday when he shot the lights out in the Fuel Masters’ ripping of Meralco at AUF Sports Arena & Cultural Center in Pampanga.
Performing without an audience due to the pandemic, Wright went on a shooting clinic, firing 36 points in a 116-98 win.
“Coming to the bubble, it was a lot of factors. People miss their families and some may complain about some things in the bubble, but I feel if you truly love the game and you’re a real hooper, this is the perfect atmosphere,” he said.
The 29-year-old Wright went 11-of-23 from the field and only missed one of his 11 tries at the free throw line.
But Wright wasn’t the only “real hooper” to show up so far early in the restart with Roger Pogoy also putting on a show for TNT with a career-high 45 points during the opener on Sunday.
