Drex Zamboanga eyes ONE title, moves to bantamweight

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino flyweight Drex Zamboanga hopes his triumphant ONE Championship debut is just the beginning of bigger things to come.
Zamboanga has lofty goals with becoming a world champion just among his many dreams as he aims to make a name for himself inside the ONE Circle.
“My goal is to become a world champion. I won’t be satisfied until I have reached that goal. I will do everything in my power to overcome any challenge that is put in front of me,” he said.
The 31-year-old Zamboanga is on the right track after scoring a second-round submission over Detchadin Srosirisuphathin of Thailand four months ago in ONE: A New Breed.
Zamboanga, older brother of top atomweight contender Denice, has been holed up in Thailand, unable to return back home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But he made sure to use his time wisely as he kept honing his craft.
Aside from winning the world title, Zamboanga also plans to move up in weight.
“Another goal of mine is moving up to a higher weight class,” said Zamboanga.
“I think any fighter in the bantamweight division is good. They are all great fighters. I’ve been training hard here in Thailand, and I can’t wait to get back in there and put on a good show for all the fans.”
