Magsayo dominates foe to remain unbeaten
MANILA, Philippines — Mark Magsayo stayed perfect after outclassing the United States’ Pablo Cruz in just four rounds in their featherweight 10-rounder Sunday (Manila time) at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The 25-year-old from Tagbilaran City, Bohol secured his 22nd victory and 14th knockout, his first in three fights.
Magsayo had Cruz’s number throughout the match sending the 34-year-old Texan to the mat thrice.
Cruz first went down in the middle of the second round after absorbing a stiff jab from Magsayo and he went down again in the third round when Magsayo unleashed a flurry of hooks.
Magsayo, who’s training under the tutelage of Freddie Roach, finally waylaid Cruz in the fourth with a cracking right straight prompting referee John Callas to stop the fight.
This was Magsayo’s second straight match in the United States.
Ancajas beat a game Jonathan Rodriguez of Mexico via unanimous decision in a grueling battle.
