MANILA, Philippines—Jaymar Gimpayan was named Most Valuable Player of the 2021 Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup’s Visayas Leg after leading MJAS Zenith-Talisay to a perfect 10-0 run in the eliminations.
The 6-foot-2 forward out of Our Lady of Fatima University collected his trophy ahead of Game 1 of the Best-of-three Visayas finals at Alcantara’s Civic Centre in Cebu.
“I didn’t expect this because all I really did was work hard,” said Gimpayan in Filipino. “I dedicate this award to my older brother because he was really the one who pushed me to play basketball and try my luck in Manila.”
“I also thank my teammates because they never left me in the bubble. They really treated me as family, I have them with me always.”
Gimpayan notched 416 points in the MVP race built on 333 statistical points (1st), 18 from player votes (2nd), 25 from media votes (1st), and 40 votes (1st) from the VisMin office.
He averaged 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds (3rd) per game for the Aquastars during their perfect elimination run.
Tubigon Bohol’sJoseph Marquez and big man Pari Llagas placed second and third, respectively, in the race with the former tallying 358 points while the latter gathering 301.
MJAS-Talisay point guard Paulo Hubalde and center Jhaymo Eguillos joined Gimpayan in the All-Visayas team along with power forward Marquez and KCS-Mandaue City’s Gryann Mendoza.
