MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipino boxers secured at least a bronze medal after moving on to the semifinals in the ASBC Asian Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Dubai.

Light flyweight Mark Lester Durens hardly broke a sweat after needing only one round to dispose of Mansour Khalefah of Kuwait in their quarterfinal match.

Junmilardo Ogayre also booked his place in the semis after beating Rukmal Prasanna of Sri Lanka on points in their bantamweight bout.

But it wasn’t all smiles for the Philippine delegation as two of the country’s bets fell short.

John Paul Panuayan got ousted by Bakhodur Usmonov of Tajikistan in their light welterweight match while Maricel del Torre bowed out after losing to Huswatun Hasanah of Indonesia.
