MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas secured the commitment of Gilas youth member Jordi Gomez de Liaño ahead of UAA Season 84.

The Varsitarian, the school’s official student publication, reported the development on Thursday.

De Liaño, the younger brother of University of the Philippines’ Juan and Javi, had a solid personal campaign for the Junior Maroons despite the team going 1-13 in Season 82.

The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 13 points with 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his final season with UP Integrated School.

De Liaño was supposed to suit up for Gilas Pilipinas youth in the 2019 Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship in Beirut, Lebanon but that event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Growling Tigers are looking to recover from the fallout of the Sorsogon fiasco that saw the departure of head coach Aldin Ayo and key players CJ Cansino and Mark Nonoy.

Reigning MVP Soulemane Chabi Yo will still lead the Growling Tigers alongside holdovers Sherwin Concepcion and Dave Ando.

De Liaño will join incoming rookies Rom Junsay from Arellano, Johnsherick Estrada from St. Clare College of Caloocan, and Nikko Panganiban from Our Lady of Fatima University.
