Chery Tiggo makes quick work of PLDT in PVL pro opener
MANILA, Philippines—Chery Tiggo stopped PLDT with a quick 25-20, 25-17, 25-6 win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference opener Saturday at PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
From spiking to blocking, the Crossovers had the Power Hitters’ number with three players from Chery Tiggo scoring at least 10 points while no one from PLDT reached nine.
Article continues after this advertisementMary Joy Dacoron led the Crossovers with 13 points, six of which came from blocks, while Dindin Santiago-Manabat and younger sister Jaja Santiago had 12 and 11 points, respectively.
“Definitely we’re thankful because we were able to come back to the playing court and the most important thing for us right now is the health of the players,” said Crossovers head coach Aaron Velez.
“The players performed their roles, however, we still have to do a lot of things again, this is still part of our adjustment period from almost two years without volleyball so we need to still push harder.”
Article continues after this advertisementPLDT had no answer for Chery Tiggo with the Power Hitters failing to tally a single block.
The Crossovers also found their mark offensively, going 38-of-94 on spike attempts while the Power Hitters went 26-of-107 from the floor.
Isa Molde led PLDT with eight points whie Ellie Soyud had seven.
