MANILA, Philippines—Meralco is down another man after Aaron Black suffered an injury in his right hand in the Bolts’ 95-83 win over Terrafirma in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup Thursday at DHVSU Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
Black played just two minutes at the start of the game before hurting his hand and getting subbed out. He was then taken to the hospital for X-rays which his father and coach Norman Black said showed no broken bones.
“I’m not sure how serious it is so we’ll figure it out later,” said Norman after the Bolts’ win that put them close to a playoff berth. “But at least there’s no broken bones and hopefully it will heal as quickly as possible.”
The Bolts are already without several of their players and it was reported that two of them tested positive for COVID-19.
Black is averaging 6.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists for the Bolts this conference.
With the sophomore guard out, the Bolts found a backup in veteran Anjo Caram who finished with 13 points, on 3-of-4 shooting from deep, and five assists.
Meralco holds the second seed in the standings with a 6-2 record but will need one more win to clinch its spot in the playoffs.
