MANILA, Philippines—After nearly two years of inactivity, Larry Fonacier is ready to get back into business as part of NLEX’s PBA 3×3 team.

Fonacier, 39, skipped the previous two Philippine Cups due to personal reasons but will now play for Cavitex in the half-court competition.

The former Gilas mainstay will join Kyles Lao, AC Soberano, David Murrell, and Maurice Shaw in the Braves and will have Emman Monfort and Borgie Hermida, both of whom are younger than him, as coaches.

“It’s been two years since I’ve played, and our training has been hard and it’s difficult keeping up with the kids,” said Fonacier.

Lao, Soberano, and Murrell are all in their 20s but Fonacier doesn’t have to endure the generation gap by himself as the 6-foot-9 Shaw is already 36.

Fonacier, who has won seven titles in the PBA, admitted that playing in the 3×3 league will help him learn more facets of the game and expand his style.

“I’m forced to expand my game and to reinvent myself again,” said Fonacier, who made a name as one of the league’s best shooters. “It’s interesting, I’m looking forward to this.”
