MANILA, Philippines—Petro Gazz continued its rebuild for the next Premier Volleyball League season announcing a bevy of new signings as well as returning players into the fold.

The Angels welcomed Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, MJ Phillips, Bang Pineda, Nicole Tiamzon, and Marielle Gabarda as their new players for the coming 2022 PVL season.

While there were new faces to the team, there are also those who made their returns namely Cienne Cruz, Djanel Cheng, and Jonah Sabete.

Petro Gazz experienced a talent exodus at the start of 2022 when nine of its players from 2021 left.

Of the new signings, Maizo-Pontillas and Phillips are the biggest additions with the two already having established themselves as national team players.

Phillips represented the Philippines in the 2021 AVC Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Thailand for Team Choco Mucho while Maizo-Pontillas started his international career in 2014 and helped the Philippines to the bronze in the 2019 ASEAN Grand Prix.

Tiamzon, who will take up an outside spiker position, started her club career with Foton in 2015 before spending four years with Perlas from 2017 to 2021.

The 5-foot-10 Gabarda is expected to hold the middle blocker position for the team and take over the responsibilities that former Best Middle Blocker Ria Meneses and Jessey De Leon previously had.

Pineda, meanwhile, will play for her eighth club after having stints with Cagayan, Kia, Petron, Generika-Ayala, United, Choco Mucho, and Sta. Lucia.
