Kianna Dy mum on decision to beg off from PH volleyball team
MANILA, Philippines — Kianna Dy, who made a rousing Premier Volleyball League debut, is not yet ready to disclose her reason for begging off from the Philippine women’s volleyball pool for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
After leading F2 Logistics to a convincing 25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22 victory over Black Mamba-Army on Wednesday at Paco Arena, Dy was asked by the reporters to talk about her decision to beg off but she kept mum.
Article continues after this advertisement“Tara na coach (Let’s go coach),” answered the former La Salle Star, sharing a laughter with the reporters.
F2 Logistics assistant coach Benson Bocboc, who filled in for Ramil de Jesus in his team’s PVL debut, responded for Dy saying his long time player is not ready to disclose the reason.
“She has a personal reason. I think it’s not yet time to disclose,” Bocboc said.
Article continues after this advertisementDy wasn’t part of the 16-member team bared by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation on Tuesday. President Tats Suzara said the opposite spiker, her teammate Kalei Mau, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Jia Morado-De Guzman and Jasmine Nabor all declined to join the national squad.
Alyssa Valdez, Jaja Santiago, Mylene Part, Aby Marano, Majoy Baron, Deanna Wong, Iris Tolenada, Jema Galanza, Kat Tolentino, Ria Meneses, Dell Palomata, Ces Molina, Kath Arado, Dawn Macandili, Casiey Dongallo and Jelai Gajero made it to the SEA Games roster that will train to Brazil on April 12 under head coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito.
Dy, who was the PNVF Champions League MVP, was added to the pool last year and played for Rebisco in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima last October. She and the four other players who begged off were called up in the initial 20-member pool for SEA Games.
