MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala aced her matches in the singles and doubles events of the W60 Madrid on Tuesday in Spain.
The Filipino teen star beat Bulgaria’s Lia Karatancheva, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the second round of the $60,000 tournament.
Eala faces No.11 Daniela Seguel of Chile on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old also advanced in the doubles quarterfinals as she and partner En Shuo Liang of Chinese Taipei foiled Marta Huqi Gonzalez Encinas of Spain and Vasanti Shinde of India, 6-2, 6-1.
Eala and Liang will face fourth seed Timea Babos and Valeria Savinykh of Hungary in the quarterfinals.
The Rafael Nadal Academy scholar, who is competing in her second $60,000 tournament since W60 Grenoble in France, is fresh from a quarterfinals exit in the W25 Madrid last week, losing to doubles partner, Alice Robbe.
Eala and Robbe also reached the quarterfinals of the tournament’s doubles event.
