MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala stunned Chile’s Daniel Seguel, 6-1, 6-2, on Wednesday to advance to the third round of the W60 Madrid in Spain.
The 17-year-old Filipino ace took down the No.11 seed after a one-hour and 18-minute duel in the second round of the $60, 000 tournament.
Eala will face No.7 Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers of Spain in Round 3 on Thursday.
“I’m very happy to be in the final 16 of another W60k event. Let’s go for more!” wrote Eala on her social media as she eyes her third professional title.
Reimers beat her compatriot Ainhoa Atucha Gomez, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, in their second round duel.
Last year, Eala outlasted Reimers in the Finals of W15 Manaco, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, to win her first pro title.
“I’m very happy to be in the final 16 of another W60k event. Let’s go for more!” Eala wrote on her social media.
However, Eala and Taiwanese partner En Shou Liang fell to fourth seed Timea Babos of Hungary and Valeria Savinykh, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarterfinals of the doubles tournament.
“Thank you also to my partner En Shou Liang(TPE) for teaming up in Doubles. We complete our tournament with a Doubles Quarterfinals finish,” Eala said.
It was the third quarterfinal exit of Eala in doubles after her stints in the W25 Macon last February and W25 Madrid last week.
