MANILA, Philippines–Jessika Cowart became the second member of the Philippine women’s football team to take her act to Serbia after recently signing with ZFK Spartak Subotica.

The club which has won the last 12 titles in the Serbian Women’s Super League made the announcement earlier this week as Cowart follows the lead of Filipinas teammate Quinley Quezada.

Quezada signed with Red Star Belgrade a couple of months ago following a stint for Japanese side JEF United Chiba.

Cowart’s move came weeks after playing an integral role in the Philippines’ title run in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship which was held before a hometown crowd at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Her play on the defensive side of the pitch was among the reasons for the Filipinas’ success during the two-week competition which saw coach Alen Stajcic’s squad conceding just two goals.

The 22-year-old also scored the opening goal when the Philippines defeated Thailand, 3-0, in the final to capture the AFF crown before 8,257 fans.

She broke the ice seven minutes into the championship game, heading the ball off a cross from teammate Tahnai Annis.
