PVL: Maika Ortiz joins Choco Mucho for Reinforced Conference
MANILA, Philippines — Maika Ortiz has found a new home in Choco Mucho ahead of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference in October.
The Flying Titans on Saturday welcomed the veteran middle blocker on their social media pages.
Ortiz parted ways with Chery Tiggo after seven years as the management decided to rebuild its roster last month after back-to-back eight-place finishes in the first two conferences of the PVL season and missing the semifinal round of the Invitationals.
The 30-year-old University of Santo Tomas standout is set to solidify the frontline of Choco Mucho, joining Bea De Leon and Cherry Nunag.
Aduke Ogunsanya was ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining an ACL injury in the Invitationals, while Maddie Madayag is still recovering from the same injury she suffered last year’s PVL bubble.
The 5-foot-10 middle blocker, who played instrumental in Chery Tiggo’s first PVL championship in the 2021 Open Conference in Ilocos Norte, is set to share her experience, leadership, lethal running attacks, and solid net defense to the Flying Titans.
Choco Mucho, which finished fourth in two consecutive Open Conferences, missed the semifinals in the midseason tournament, winning only two of its six matches due to its players suffering from health issues in the middle of the competition.
