RJ Abarrientos shines anew as Ulsan enters KBL Cup Finals

MANILA, Philippines—Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus advanced to the 2022 Korean Basketball League (KBL) Cup Finals after defeating Changwon LG Sakers, 82-78, with RJ Abarrientos putting up another impressive showing at Tongyeong Gymnasium on Friday.

Abarrientos shot a stellar 44 percent from the three-point area, sinking four of his nine attempts to help Ulsan en route to the win.

He finished with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists after posting 15 points and six assists in their last game.

Another Filipino KBL import Justin Gutang, a former St. Benilde standout, only had six minutes of play for Changwon and tallied a lone assist.

Gauge Prim led Ulsan with a double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds. Ham Ji-Hoon and Lee Woo Seok also chipped 14 and 13, respectively.

Assem Marei finished with 20 markers and seven boards in a losing effort for Changwon.

Ulsan Hyundai will face either Goyang Carrot Jumpers or Suwon KT Sonicboom in the preseason championship.
