MANILA, Philippines–The Bay Area Dragons encountered some scary moments late before holding off the Converge FiberXers, 106-100, to raise their record to 4-0 in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Despite leading by 22 points in the fourth, the midseason conference’s guest team had to weather the FiberXers’ uprising to secure the victory that put them back alone at the top of the standings.

“Our defense in the last two minutes was key,” said Dragons coach Brian Goorjian.

Myles Powell, playing the last of his four-game stretch before handing the duties to Andrew Nicholson, topscored for Bay Area with 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

But Bay Area also got key contributions from guard Glen Yang with 23 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals and Songwei Zhu who added 20 points.

Converge suffered a second straight loss to go 1-2 despite 38 points from Quincy Miller.

Bay Area led 91-69 but Converge slowly came back to get to within four, 104-100, on a basket by Miller, less than 90 seconds to go.

Converge made a pair of stops but Maverick Ahanmisi and Miller missed their three-point shots which would have narrowed the gap to a single point.

BAY AREA 106 — Powell 33, Yang 23, Zhu 20, Blankley 10, Reid 7, Lam 6, Liu 4, Ju 3, Zheng 0, Liang 0.
