Letran teams triumph in NCAA volleyball

MANILA, Philippines—Letran showed dominance in both the NCAA Season 98 men’s and women’s volleyball tournament at San Andres Complex on Friday.

The Lady Knights outlasted San Sebastian in four sets, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 29-27, in an intense one-hour and 51 minutes affair.

Judiel Nitura helped Letran improve to 3-1 in the standings with 17 points while Chamberlaine Cunada and Lea Tapang helped the cause with 16 and 15 to their names, respectively.

Christina Marasigan finished with 18 points but it was all for naught as the Lady Stags dropped to a winless slate of 0-4.

The Knights, meanwhile, also got four-set win, 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, over the Golden Stags in men’s play.

Vince Rey Himzon continued his stellar outing for the now-2-2 Letran with 26 markers while Michael Doria almost breached the 20-point barrier with 19 to his name.

Kyle Villamor had a tremendous 32-point outburst in a losing effort for Baste, which tripped to a 1-3 card.

Emilio Aguinaldo College, on the other hand, joined the winner’s circle in the  women’s division, defeating San Beda in a lengthy five-set bout, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12.

Cathrine Almazan averted disaster for EAC with 24 markers while Jennifer Omapas and Jamaica Villena tallied identical 12 markers to give the squad its first win after four games (1-3).

Chynna Castillo was the leading scorer for the Lady Red Lions (0-4) with 16 to her name.

The Generals also won in their bout against the Red Lions in a likewise five-setter, 26-24, 25-20, 25-27, 17-25, 15-10. 

Joshua Ramilo spearheaded EAC, which improved to a 3-1 record with 26 points while Marvin Romero also had 24 in the victory.

Ralph Cabalsa finished with 21 in a losing effort for San Beda, which absorbed a 2-2 card.
