Gilas Pilipinas tries to regain its place as the best in the region in men’s basketball while the women’s team looks to extend its dominance in the Southeast Asian Games with a third straight medal in Cambodia.

The Philippine men’s basketball team, which yielded the gold medal in the 2022 SEA Games that ended a 33-year rule, advanced to the finals of the men’s basketball competition.

Gilas Pilipinas finished 2-1 in the preliminaries, including a humbling loss to Cambodia, enough to reach the semifinal round.

It defeated Indonesia, the same team that beat Gilas Pilipinas in Hanoi, in the knockout semifinal to arrange a gold medal match against naturalized-laden Cambodia.

Men’s basketball is played in a revised format in SEA Games 2023, where the top two teams per group advance with the one-off semifinal and the gold medal disputed in a final match.

In the previous edition, teams played in a single-round robin with the best record team getting the gold.
