PHNOM PENH—Ronald Oranza grabbed a bronze medal in men’s cycling criterium on Thursday at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
Oranza checked in third with a similar clocking as compatriot Efren Castro Reyes in one hour, 13 minutes and 39 seconds, but was rewarded with the bronze after the high-velocity race held at the fringes of the majestic Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.
Indonesia’s Terry Yudha Kusuma clinched the gold in 1:13.38 while Malaysia’s Nur Amirull Mazuki got the silver with a similar time.
A veteran national team mainstay from Villasis, Pangasinan, the 31-year-old Oranza collected the third medal for Philippine cycling after Ariana Evangelista snared a silver in the women’s mountain bike.
Evangelista anchored the PH mixed mountain bike cross-country relay to a bronze finish earlier in a team that included Edmhel Flores, Jerico Rivera and Shagne Paula Yaoyao.
