Jaraula snaps long title drought

Reymon Jaraula still scampered off with the P2 million ICTSI Valley Golf Challenge crown on Friday despite bogeys in two of his last three holes, winning his second pro title by five shots over LJ Go and Clyde Mondilla at the demanding South course in Antipolo.

The Del Monte native returned a one-under-par 71 for 278, and despite the wobbly finish, was never really threatened on a humid day as his pursuers couldn’t really go low, with Ira Alido, who started the day just two shots back, ballooning to a 76 to finish seven back.

“There was pressure from the start, even if I bogeyed the first two holes,” said Jaraula in Filipino. “I just told myself to just relax and try to rebound.”

After playing his first nine at one-over, Jaraula opened up the second birdie-eagle-par-birdie that practically put the tournament to bed, a long-awaited follow-up victory to his breakthrough in 2018 at Pueblo de Oro.
