MANILA, Philippines — F2 Logistics coach Regine Diego sees Ivy Lacsina’s potential of becoming “one of the best outside hitters” in the country as the former middle blocker switched positions for the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference.

Lacsina shone as an open spiker and showed the way with 13 points in F2 Logistics’ 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 win over the debuting Farm Fresh on Tuesday at FilOIl EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Diego, who tried to convert Lacsina once in the All-Filipino Conference against Army, decided to play the 6-foot-1 middle blocker as an outside hitter for the rest of the conference, believing she can thrive in that position.

“From the first time she played in that position, I know that there will be doubts because she was not used to playing that position. But I know I know she has the potential to be one of the best outside hitters in the Philippines,” said Diego after winning their first Pool B game.

“I know she still has a lot to learn and hopefully in the future, she will be one of the best,” she added.

The 23-year-old Lacsina, who decided to turn pro with the Cargo Movers in January, admitted that she is still adjusting and needs to learn more. But with the trust of her coach and teammates, she vows to embrace her new role.

“Hindi siya naging ganun kadali pero dahil sa tulong ng ates, coaches, talagang nayakap ko yung position na binigay sa akin ni coach,” Lacsina said. “Laging sinasabi sa akin ni coach, lalo kagabi kasi nagmessage ako sa kanya, sabi niya na may tiwala siya sa akin. Malaking factor yun para makapaglaro ako today.”

(It’s not easy but with the help of my ates and coaches. I embraced this new position given to me. Coach always tells me that she trusts me, especially last night when I messaged her. It was a big factor in why I played [well today].)

“Yun naman po talaga yung kailangan na kailangan ko, yung tiwala nila sa akin dahil susunod na yung mga galaw na pwede ko ipakita at trabaho rin po para sa akin,” she added.

Lacsina’s new role adds more depth to F2 Logistics’ open spiker rotation, joining Jolina Dela Cruz, Myla Pablo, Ara Galang, and Cha Cruz-Behag.

The Cargo Movers eye their second win against the Cignal HD Spikers on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the same venue in San Juan City.
