MANILA, Philippines—With another baby on the way, one would expect Scottie Thompson to have his stress levels at an all-time high.
But the Ginebra star guard said that he is able to juggle all his duties on and off the court with his wife Jinky backing him up.
“I’m just so blessed with my wife because she’s always there to support me and she makes things easier for me. She tells me to focus on the games,” said Thompson after the Gin Kings’ 100-86 victory over Converge in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
But with the pair ready to welcome their second child after Scot Alystair, Thompson expects things to be a little bit easier and familiar.
“With the new pregnancy now, we handle it better because after the first one [with Scot Alystair] we already know the ups, downs and struggles better,” said last season’s PBA MVP frontrunner, who also suited up for Gilas Pilipinas in the Fiba World Cup and Asian xGames.
Other than being a father and a full-time professional player, Thompson also has another duty which is being a team manager for Perpetual Help.
Thankfully for Thompson, even the Altas are helping him by not being too demanding with his new role for the squad, which is still currently in the race for NCAA Season 99 Final Four spot at 9-8.
“They appointed me as team manager to help them with their needs. Of course, it’s my alma mater so it’s hard to refuse and that’s how I plan on giving back to them and what they’ve done for me,” he recalled. “When they called me I said ‘yes’ right away and so far, it’s helping the team. We’re getting sponsors for the team and needs for the players.”
“It’s not so hard because I live near Perpetual Help so after practice, I go home and rest and if I have time, I’ll go to their practices.”
With numerous responsibilities at tow, Thompson didn’t forget his duty to coach Tim Cone, scoring 13 points, six assists and five rebounds in Friday’s victory.
