UAAP volleyball: La Salle admits struggling with transition after players’ departure
MANILA, Philippines — La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus admitted that it’s tough to build a dynasty with the current trend of the UAAP players forgoing their remaining playing years to turn professional in the PVL.
La Salle lost several key players after Finals MVP and Best Setter Mars Alba and Jolina Dela Cruz graduated, followed by the departure of Fifi Sharma and Justine Jazareno, who bid farewell to the Lady Spikers and join the Akari Chargers in the pros.
UAAP volleyball: Angel Canino has ‘matured’ in her second year, says coach
MANILA, Philippines — La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus believes Angel Canino has become a more mature player in her second year with the Lady Spikers in time for their title-retention bid in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
Canino fired 14 points built on 11 attacks and three blocks to kick off her sophomore season and jumpstart La Salle’s campaign with a rousing 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 victory over Adamson on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
As he reaches 300 wins, Ramil De Jesus looks to leave legacy of discipline
MANILA, Philippines — More than getting a record number of wins, Ramil De Jesus wants to leave a legacy as a coach who produced smart and disciplined players.
De Jesus opened his 27th year with La Salle in historic fashion with his 300th win— most in the UAAP by a coach– after the Lady Spikers swept the Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18, in the Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament opener on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

La Salle crushes Adamson to kick off UAAP volleyball title retention bid
MANILA, Philippines–La Salle’s length and prowess were just too much in a quick and methodical 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 annihilation of Adamson at the start of the Lady Spikers’ title-retention bid on Saturday night at the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball.
The win was nothing short of phenomenal since it coincided with the 300th career victory of La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus in the UAAP.
UAAP volleyball: Ateneo’s long-sleeved jerseys just a one time thing
MANILA, Philippines–Ateneo surprised everyone with not-so-usual long-sleeved jerseys to open the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Blue Eagles may have looked good in their long-sleeved kits, but Saturday would be the first and the last time that they would be donning that uniform.
“Actually, we were surprised that we were using long sleeves for our jersey, but we were told that it was only for today so we’ll go back to wearing sleeveless next game,” Lyann De Guzman told Inquirer after their 25-20, 18-25, 23-25, 18-25 loss to new-look University of the East.

MANILA, Philippines — Julia Coronel is up for the challenge of being one of the leaders in La Salle’s title-retention bid in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament starting on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
After the departure of reigning Best Setter and Season 85 Finals MVP Mars Alba, Coronel was tasked to be the team captain and main playmaker of the team.
UAAP volleyball: They’re rebuilding, but don’t sleep on these plucky Tigresses
Admittedly on its rebuilding phase, University of Santo Tomas (UST) will be coming into the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament with no expectations.
But it doesn’t mean that the Golden Tigresses would simply back down to the competition, especially after surprising themselves in their preseason preparations.
“We performed well [in the preseason] even though we didn’t put a lot of pressure on ourselves,” captain Bernadett Pepito told the Inquirer after the league’s press conference on Monday. “Coming to this season we are hungry [to win] because in the two seasons of the Shakey’s (tournament), we reached the final four.”
UAAP volleyball: Faida Bakanke poised to be x-factor for FEU Lady Tamaraws
MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University parades star foreign student-athlete Faida Bakanke in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, which opens this weekend at Mall of Asia Arena.
Even before the season started, the Congolese rookie has already made waves by flexing her towering net defense and hard-hitting attacks to lead FEU to two podium finishes with a silver medal in the V-League and a bronze in the Shakey’s Super League.
Sergio Veloso targets Final Four stint for Ateneo in his UAAP coaching debut
MANILA, Philippines — Despite fielding a rebuilding roster, new Ateneo coach Sergio Veloso is determined to bring back the Blue Eagles to the Final Four in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
“It’s my first season and I introduced a little different skills, different system, and I’m so happy because the players understand this and my feeling, the team can improve to another level,” said the Brazilian coach, who makes his debut on Saturday against the new-look University of the East.
“Our target is to [be] in the Top Four.”
