MANILA, Philippines — Mayang Nuique is determined to thrive in her new position as the opposite spiker for the young Adamson Lady Falcons in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

After spraining her ankle in the weekend opener and being limited to five points in their four-set loss to La Salle last Saturday, Nuique dropped nine points in Adamson’s 25-20, 25-15, 25-12 sweep of the University of the East on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

MANILA, Philippines — Part of Shaina Nitura’s sensational entry to the collegiate ranks is a piece of eyewear that keeps her game on point in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

Aside from Nitura’s scoring prowess, her goggles have also caught the attention of the fans after the Adamson Lady Falcons won two of their first three games.

She has a  vision grade of 275 on her left eye and 375 on her right and also suffers from astigmatism, but that hasn’t stopped her from shining as one of the emerging stars of Philippine volleyball.

Having identical starts in their UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball campaigns, La Salle and University of Santo Tomas (UST) will be stepping on the court on Wednesday having similar outlooks they want to accomplish at each other’s expense.

The Lady Spikers and the Growling Tigresses were run to the ground by different foes to open their respective seasons, and after bouncing back the next time, they obviously would want to start their first winning streak on Wednesday.

“We’re happy to get the win because we reminded ourselves that it’s important to take it one game at a time,” Reg Jurado said in Filipino after leading Santo Tomas past University of the East, 28-26, 22-25, 25-23, 25-15, last weekend.
