Patrick Deyto lifts Global into UFL FA Finals
MANILA, Philippines — Patrick Deyto wasn’t about to miss the biggest game of his club football career.
And his decision proved wonders for Global.
Bucking the ill-effects of a long flight, the goalkeeper helped lift Global past Loyola Meralco, 2-1, Tuesday night and into the finals of the United Football League’s FA League Cup at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Article continues after this advertisementDeyto, who played for the national team in the 3-0 win over Nepal last Saturday, came straight from a nine-hour flight from Qatar.
He pulled off a string of impressive saves, before substitutes Izzo El-Habbib and Edgar Briones struck for Global.
“That’s why I came here to Global to play in games like this,” said Deyto, who denied Phil Younghusband from close range at the hour-mark before Briones scored in the 85th minute.

Younghusband grabbed a late consolation from the penalty spot to peg the final score.
