MVP to provide AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines for PBA

MANILA, Philippines — Sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan will be providing vaccines for the PBA in time for its 46th season.

Pangilinan, the business tycoon who owns three PBA franchises in Talk ’N Text, Meralco and NLEX, is expected to donate 3,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines for 1,500 members of the PBA family.

“We are very grateful to MVP for really looking after the welfare of the players of all teams and their dependents,” said PBA board vice chair Bobby Rosales in a press conference Tuesday.

“So anytime that those vaccines arrive this will be offered and given to the players and their dependents.”

A total of 487,200 doses of the vaccine, developed by the British-Swede pharmaceutical firm, arrived in the Philippines on Thursday while an additional 38,400 doses followed.

The AstraZeneca jabs were from the World Health Organisation-led COVAX facility, which promised 525,600 doses to the Philippines.

The PBA is tentatively set to begin its 46th season on April 11.
