Europe-bound Soulemane Chabi Yo says pandemic forced him to leave UST

MANILA, Philippines — Soulemane Chabi Yo has decided to forego his final year with University of Santo Tomas, according to The Varsitarian, the school’s official publication, on Monday.

Chabi Yo is reportedly heading to Europe to play for a fourth-tier team in Spain.

“My plan was to finish my playing years in UST before leaving but since COVID came, that destroyed all the plans,” the Beninese forward said, as per the Varsitarian.

The UAAP, which did not push through with its 83rd season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is eyeing a February return.

In his only season with UST in 2019, the Beninese forward led the fourth-seeded Growling Tigers to UAAP Season 82 Finals.

The 25-year-old Chabi Yo was also named MVP that season after averaging 16.9 points and 14.7 rebounds in the elimination round.
