CEU, St. Clare keep Naascu top 2 slots

Centro Escolar remained on track for a sweep as the defending champion Scorpions crushed City University of Pasay, 100-49, yesterday for win No. 8 in the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities men’s basketball tournament at RTU gym.

All the Scorpions fielded scored as CEU flashed its most dangerous form so far while limiting the Eagles to only seven points in the third quarter.

In the other game, St. Clare stretched its own winning run to seven with an 84-53 win over Diliman Computer Technology Institute.

Chief playmaker Marte Gil posted 22 points, including six three-pointers, on top of seven assists, five rebounds and four steals for the Saints, who started their streak after dropping their opener to the Scorpions.
In the six-team second round, CEU only has to win four more games to complete a sweep of the eliminations and go straight to the finals. If the Scorpions miss the sweep, the top four teams advance to the semifinals with the top two squads enjoying  a twice-to-beat bonus.
CEU also kept its unbeaten slate in the junior division, blasting Philippine Christian U, 76-36, for its fifth win. PCU dropped to 1-5.

Fatima clobbered New Era, 65-50, for the Baby Phoenix’s fourth win in five games, the same slate of St. Clare which downed Rizal Technological, 76-73.
